Future Mastics have been carrying out sealant refurbishment work to hundreds of windows for the National Trust at their Castle Drogo property, in Devon since March 2014.

Castle Drogo is a country house and castle near Drewsteignton, Devon. It was built between 1911 and 1930, it was the last castle to be constructed in England. The castle was built for Julius Drewe, by the architect Edwin Lutyens a grade 1 listed building. The castle was given to the national trust in 1974, and is currently undergoing conservation.

“Future Mastics are extremely proud to be able to play a part in the current conservation works” says Contracts Manager Kyle Purchase

The windows have been leaking ever since they were installed in the early 20th Century and were in need of refurbishment.

“Following the refurbishment of more than 900 original brass window frames and leaded lights, it was essential that their re-installation into the hand-worked granite stone reveals of Castle Drogo provided immediate and long-term protection against the wind and rain driving off Dartmoor. Using a bespoke coloured sealant developed for the Castle, Future Mastics Ltd have provided an excellent service over the course of the 4 year project, both in terms of workmanship and in flexibility of programming in some challenging conditions. We would highly recommend them for both specialist and for more routine projects.” said Richard Neville (Avon Armour Ltd, Bristol).

The work is being carried out under the Arbomaster Approved Applicator Scheme completing perimeter sealant and glass capping to both the external and internal window frames with joint sizes ranging from 6mm to 30mm wide. Works have been carried out both in situ and off site, using Arbosil XL1099 silicone in a specially produced nut brown colour as specified by the National Trust.
